re-entry easier for white-collar workers

Changes in the workforce are making returning to work for college-educated, experienced professionals easier according to a recent WSJ article by Toddi Gutner. Many corporate recruiters recognize the coming reduction in the workforce caused by the retirement of baby boomers and are paying increased attention to work/life balance necessary to attract Gen X & Y workers.

The legal, financial, marketing and consulting industries are leading the way with recruiting programs targeting women going back to work.  Interestingly, the older, returning worker is also being recruited by corporate diversity programs.  Some of the companies that have reentry programs include:

Lehman Brothers

Goldman Sachs

Booz Allen Hamilton

PricewaterhouseCoopers

Deloitte & Touche

Many companies are actively participating in, sponsoring and recruiting at career reentry seminars like the Career Relaunch Forum I attended earlier this month.  Business school reentry programs are also being utilized to find workers trying to reenter the workforce.  I will be attending Harvard Business School’s “Charting Your Course”  program later this month and will post my observations.
