Soccer Moms can’t win

According to a Newsweek article,  TLC’s Secret Life of A Soccer Mom has received some harsh criticism from viewers.  One of the women featured in the program decided to return to work and unfortunately this sparked the “Mommy Wars” fire on the show’s message board.

In my own experience, I never encountered a mommy war.  What I did notice was that stay-at-home moms and working moms’ paths don’t cross that often.  They have completely different schedules which makes interaction difficult.  I don’t think I have ever heard a working mom criticize a stay-at-home mom or a stay-at-home mom criticize a working mom for the choices they made.  Not to mention that many women simply do not have that choice.  They work or stay home out of need-be it financial need or overwhelming care-taking responsibilities with children and aging or sick parents.

Sure I have heard some comments about working moms not contributing their fair share as school volunteers or stay-at-home moms obsessing and being too involved but nothing to the extent of the TLC critics.

I guess the point I am trying to make is that each woman’s life and circumstances are so different that I just don’t understand how someone can choose a side in a supposed mommy war.  There shouldn’t be a battle to begin with.
